After much hoopla Google Wallet finally launched on the Nexus S last September, but it was only available on Sprint’s version of the phone and not T-Mobile’s. Then when Verizon announced their Galaxy Nexus, it was soon discovered that they would not support Google Wallet. Verizon claimed that Google Wallet “needs to be integrated into a new, secure and proprietary hardware element in our phones” and they were continuing their commercial discussions with Google on the issue.
Thanks to a recent app update, Nexus users on AT&T and Verizon can now install Google Wallet directly from the Android Market. Many users previously obtained a hacked copy or side-loaded it onto their device, but now they can have the comfort of getting the latest official version from Google.
AT&T users with the Nexus S or GSM Galaxy Nexus just need to search for Galaxy Nexus and install it. Those devices are recognized as supported in the Market and it’s a 1-click isntall.
Google Wallet Google Inc. MARKET QR POWERED BY APPAWAREFor Verizon owners of the Galaxy Nexus, the process takes a few extra steps. They need to visit the Android Market website from their browser and then trick their device into installing the official app. It might sound like a little much, but it only takes around one minute to complete.
If it doesn’t work right away, just sign out of the Android Market website from your browser and try the steps again. I tried this on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus and it worked on the 2nd try. Previously I had side-loaded an older version of Google Wallet, and the install updated it to the latest version with no problems.
We don’t have a Nexus S or GSM Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile to test this trick out, but hopefully it works on that device as well. If you happen to have one on hand, let us know if you were able to install Google Wallet from the Market.
At least AT&T is now allowing Google Wallet on some Android phones with NFC, and hopefully Verizon is close to reaching an agreement with Google.

Antonio WellsIn case you haven’t been following the latest Facebook news they’ve just gone public. Recently signing their Initial Public Offering, authorized by Ernst & Young LLP as having shares of its common stock available to the world. While this is big news it doesn’t really matter for us here in the world of Android. We do have some good news though — Facebook for Android just received an update although only a minor one.
The update to Facebook for Android has just hit the Android Market but judging by the screenshot above they haven’t released a change-log. According to their site and comments on the Facebook for Android page they’ve brought a load of bug fixes with the latest version — although they wont detail what exactly they’ve fixed.
Are you seeing any improvements to the latest version? We are also hearing a few memory management and efficiency issues have been resolved and should keep the application running quick and smoothly for Android users. I don’t know about you guys but ever since the latest huge UI update and overhaul the app just keeps getting worse. We’ll probably see an update tonight or tomorrow to fix whatever they’ve broke today. With all the money Facebook makes, and even more now they’ve gone public you think they could create a better app. Just saying. Hit the link below and grab the shiny new update.
Story TimelineThe popular online media and music streaming service Rhapsody that is now available on Android, Google TV and many other devices has just launched their latest update for Android. Starting today users can stream in style with a brand new, fully redesigned and imagined Android tablet interface. It’s not just re-sized for a tablet, it has been full on designed specifically for tablets and looks great.
Rhapsody allows customers to find and discover millions of new music tracks, not to mention unlimited music streaming to your Android phone or tablet. They are touting the new tablet layout as more touchable, more engaging, and now with loads of content and new paths to music discovery. With large tiles for easy discovery users can find and enjoy music with ease. This new UI apparently works on Android 3.0 Honeycomb and above tablets, and only for 9? or larger screens. We’ve yet to try it on a 7? slate but have a feeling it just might work anyways.
That isn’t all either. The latest update is available right now in the Android Market and they’ve even updated a few fixes for the Kindle Fire — so apparently they support smaller screens in some fashion at least. Other updates include fixes to adding tracks to playlists in bulk, enhanced audio focus at song startup, fixed some sign in screen issues and now supports all Samsung device on Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
If Google Music isn’t your cup of tea or you’d like access to millions of artists and music give Rhapsody a try today. Get the new updated app from the link below and enjoy.
Rhapsody has today released a full-featured and tablet-optimized version of their Android application. Designed with tablets sized 9inches or larger and running Honeycomb (3.0+), the app features a magazine-like layout and looks simply gorgeous. Of course all the features of the previous release are still there, including customized playlists, reviews, live performances, and more. You don't get to be "#1 subscription music service in the USA" by cutting corners.
“We didn’t just resize Rhapsody – we re-imagined the entire experience for the tablet,” said Brendan Benzing, chief product officer, Rhapsody. “The tablet is not a giant phone or a mini computer. It’s your companion on the couch, in transit and out in the world, and therefore people experience music and consume content differently than they would on a computer, portable device, TV or home audio system.”

Who is ready for the Super Bowl? If you’ve been watching Sportscenter and NFL Network all week just like me and would like to show your team spirit on Android I have just the app for you. Obviously there are tons of different apps and live wallpapers available but NFL Super Bowl 3D Live Wallpaper so far is one of my favorites. It’s simple but elegant and I can sport my Packers with pride (maybe next year guys.)
While clearly anyone interested already knows it’s the Patriots vs the G-Men from New York. The app will allow you to choose any team you’d like, not just the Super Bowl teams. Although getting your favorite team logo and flag flying on your homescreen will cost you a few dollars, while the Super Bowl part is free.
It works on both phones and tablets, all screen sizes and has full support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Once you pay for your favorite team there is all sorts of settings and options. From team ringtones, stadium background settings and more. They’ve even updated with a holiday theme and Lucas Oil Stadium options specifically for the Super Bowl.
the developer states it has been officially licensed by the NFL ensuring the app wont get pulled randomly. They even have multiple angles for the helmet and stadium view for those that don’t like the standard options. It looks like a great app and will be an awesome way to show your team spirit this weekend.
My Packers sadly lost and even though it was to the Giants — I’ll still be rooting for the G-Men come Sunday. Who is your team and who do you want to win? I’m saying Giants over the Pats 20-17 for the final score. Sound off in the comments below!

Paul WilksIt's the New York Giants versus the New England Patriots this year (Giants all the way, for anyone who cares about my opinion), and the NFL wants to make sure that anyone attending the game of games is going to have the best time ever. With this in mind, they've released the official Super Bowl app, which gives attendees a map and the down-low on local food and entertainment venues, as well as official Super Bowl events that'll be happening in the area. For the social types, the integrated NFL Huddle will be providing any and all info and grandstanding via social media. The app also provides a 3D map of the stadium itself, so you can plan your bathroom trips and food runs ahead of time. Just like the game itself, spectating is all about strategy.
You can get the app from the Android Market at the link below, but if you are going to the Super Bowl, you should know I'm insanely jealous. Just sayin'.

Antonio WellsIt’s days like these when we know Google has our back. They’re constantly working to make all their services better. Today, the Search Giant has released solid updates to two of their services – Google Docs and Chrome to Phone. These updates include some aesthetic improvements for both phones and tablets, as well as offline availability for your documents.
Chrome to PhoneThis new update comes with a rehashed look to the interface. Mostly, the minimalist arrows make it much sharper and more sleek. It might be a bit different for those who don’t have Android 4.0, though. When I tested the update on an HTC Thunderbolt with Gingerbread, the arrows still had the older look.
The guys from Android Central have a much different look, though. And it might be due to the software differences of Ice Cream Sandwich.
The UI is still missing the new unified Ice Cream Sandwich look. It would be great if Google could integrate the same updated look to all of its apps, including this one. Instead of the image on top, it could be a bar with options, the search button and the menu button, much like Google Docs (image below) and many other apps out there.
The update also includes a fix to the crashes when copying text, which is definitely welcome. Also, if you’re a landscape user, you might be happy to know that this feature has been included to Chrome to Phone as well.
Google DocsGoogle Docs saw a more exciting update this time around. Many of our tablets are WiFi-only. This means that we find ourselves without an internet connection much of the time, in which case you can’t access or edit documents from Google Docs.
This update adds offline usability to Google Docs. Simply choose which documents you want to be able to access offline, and they become available wherever you might be.
As with all Google Services in Android, this app is meant to be easy to work with. Basically, after you choose a document to be available offline, the app syncs automatically whenever possible. You can make any changes to a document, and the changes will be updated as soon as the tablet hits internet connectivity. (This can also be done manually).
This would be very helpful for tablet users who are constantly working on their documents. Go ahead and work; the changes will be automatically updated when possible, creating a much more unified experience. That’s not the only new feature in this update, though.
There’s also a new feature for tablet users. Now when you open a document (while online) you will see a “high-resolution” version. This has much of a magazine feel. You can swype left and right through the pages, displaying all your hard work.
Wrap-UpKeep them coming, Google! If you want to check out these new updates, go ahead and get them straight from the Android Market. We have posted the links below for your convenience. Be sure to let us know what you think.
Google Chrome to Phone Google Inc. MARKET QR POWERED BY APPAWAREWe have an interesting application that just landed in our inbox today and figured we’d share it with our readers. NFC is still a niche in Android that has yet to really take off — although Android Beam should help things out. Today we have an NFC app that is actually fun, and not just for mobile payments. Meet Sound Pound NFC.
According to the creators this app is like a fist pound with sound. Or as I’d like to put it — an NFC high five but with audio. While in general the app is not all that useful it is quite neat and shows us one of many different types of uses NFC is capable of. With Sound Pound NFC you can share a personalized audio greeting with your friends just by touching phones together. Obviously they need to be NFC capable and that could pose a problem as those are still pretty limited.
Being announce today over on Google+ Sound Pound NFC has actually been available in the Android Market since late December. Sound Pound NFC has built-in sounds that users can choose or you can create and record your own. I can see a few of my friends abusing this app myself, so that should be fun. It will run you a small fee of $0.99 for those interested and you can get it right now from the link below.
Google has just issued another update for their popular Google Docs for Android app. While many of Google’s apps are awesome they seem to release a few that don’t have that great of tablet support — something that just doesn’t make sense to us. Today they’ve updated Docs with not only offline support, but they’ve also improved the tablet look and experience.
The last update back in October enhanced the tablet experience but today’s update brings it up to speed with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Not only does it work great with Android 4.0 like the pictures show, but it no longer will feel stretched out and modded for tablets — this is a full on tablet experience now. Feel free to use and love the best cloud-based documents application for Android on those tablets with ease.
Google has added offline support with the touch of a button. And if you edit any documents while offline they will automatically be recognized and uploaded to the cloud once online again — neat right? The tablet experience as we mentioned above also has been improved in regards to reading documents and will now be even more “high-def” according to Google. All the details are available from the Google Mobile Blog. Get the new and improved version from the Android Market now.
Story TimelineAh, the simple joy of driving a high-powered vehicle over a ramp, through a windmill and into a oil tanker, while the driver flies through the window for a hundred-yard bonus. It’s something no one wants to experience in real life, but the Flatout series of games has allowed driving enthusiasts the vicarious thrill of a spectacular crash for years now. Developer Team6 aims to bring that thrill to Android, with a new mobile sequel titled FlatOut-Stuntman [sic]. The game will be exclusive to device with Nvidia Tegra processors. If you’re unfamiliar with Flatout, it started way back on the PlayStation 2 in 2005. Taking the old driving stunt formula and adding some much-needed black humor. Stunts are awarded points on style, destruction and cringe-inducing mayhem, often involving the driver smashing through the car windshield and onto the track. Rag doll physics make for some interesting results post-crash. It’s all played for laughs, but isn’t recommended for those with a delicate disposition. Flatout-Stuntman will be a series of short, intense tracks where the player’s goal is to maximize destruction.
Two versions of the game will be released: one that blows out the graphics for new Tegra 3 phones and tablets, and a toned down version for devices that use the older Tegra 2. While the developer hasn’t released any details so far, the driving gamer in me can’t help but be excited at the prospect. Hey Sega, aren’t we due for a Crazy Taxi port on Android?

Planning to watch the New York Giants defeat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl on Sunday? The NFL just released their official Super Bowl XLVI Guide to the Android Market where it’s free to download. It appears the app has a lot of features geared towards those lucky enough to be in Indianapolis this weekend, but there are plenty of other goodies for those watching from home.
Highlights of the app include:

Antonio WellsScreens that use organic light-emitting diodes, better known as OLED and AMOLED, have a unique method of image production. When instructed to display a “black” color, the individual pixel cells are physically turned off, providing the stunning blacks seen on OLED-equipped devices like the Galaxy S II, DROID RAZR and the original Nexus One. Interestingly, this also means that displaying a mostly black image on an OLED screen also draws less power than a white or full-color image. To take advantage of this technological quirk, an intrepid modder on XDA has set about modifying all of Google’s core Android apps to save the maximum amount of battery on OLED phones, via the simple expediency of reversing the color scheme.
As you almost certainly know, the vast majority of Google’s proprietary apps for Android employ a black-on-white color scheme, the better to aid visibility. If your phone uses an OLED or AMOLED screen, XDA modder “rujelus22? presents his alternative: color-reversed “dark” apps that allow for a high degree of contrast (with admittedly slightly lower readability) and maximum battery-saving black space on the screen. The modified collection of Gingerbread apps includes the standard Gmail, Google Search, Android Market, Google Talk, Music player and Google Plus apps, with Google Voice, Documents, Translate, Twitter, Facebook, DropBox and the Ice Cream Sandwich keyboard thrown in for good measure.
The bad news is that you’ll need to get rid of the apps already on your phone in order to install them – for most of the core Android apps, that will require root access. And the apps are designed for Gingerbread, so while they should work on Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich, they won’t be ideal replacements for the tablet or phone apps those users already have .There’s no conclusive numbers on how much battery power you can save with the modified files, but I’m sure some flashers are eager to take a few measurements. The modder says he or she intends to add more themed apps to the collection over time.
By the way, don’t install these if your phone’s screen uses an LCD, unless you just like the look. They won’t save any battery power at all. If you’re unsure of what technology your phone uses, check our Device.ac database.

Paul WilksUsers of the popular Mint service for personal financial tracking have a new option for accessing the service today, as the company announces an expanded app for Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich tablets. While the Mint app has been available for months, its formatting on anything larger than a smartphone has been lacking. The updated app brings a new interface and features when used on Android 3.0 or higher. You can download the app for free in the Android Market, though you’ll need an active Mint account (also free) to use it.
If you’re unfamiliar with Mint, think of it as financial tracking with the training wheels on. Connect it to your bank account, credit cards and investments, and it gives you a quick look at your current debt/net worth, risks and spending habits. You can set up alerts for when balances are running low, or when you go over budget on regular bills, like groceries or cell phone service. Even cash transactions are covered, though you’ll have to enter those manually.
A new feature that’s particularly handy is cached storage. Say you go to that trendy new nightclub on 6th Street that coats the walls in signal-absorbing paint, and you’re suddenly unsure of whether you can cover a round for the house. Your mobile banking app is out of luck thanks to a requirement for an encrypted connection, but Mint can save your information for viewing offline, still protected by your personal password. (Ed: don’t buy a round for the house anywhere on 6th Street.) A search function helps you easily find individual purchases as well.
